Changing the size of text on your internet browser

Mozilla Firefox 1.5/2.0

  1. Open the View menu with the mouse or by pressing Alt and V together at the same time.
  2. Choose the Text Size option with the mouse or by pressing the Z charactor on the keyboard.
  3. Expand or decrease the text size with the mouse or by using the up and down arrow keys and pressing Enter on the keyboard.
  4. You can also press Ctrl and + to increase the text size, Ctrl and - to decrease the text size.
  5. Pressing Ctrl and 0 returns you to the default text size.

Internet Explorer 7

  1. Open the Page menu with the mouse or by pressing Alt and P together at the same time.
  2. Choose the Text Size option with the mouse or by pressing the X charactor on the keyboard.
  3. Choose your preferred text size by clicking on it or by using the up and down arrow keys to select it and then press Enter on the keyboard.

Internet Explorer 6

  1. Open the View menu with the mouse or by pressing Alt and V together at the same time.
  2. Select the Text Size option with the mouse or by pressing the X charactor on the keyboard.
  3. Choose your preferred text size with the mouse or by using the up and down arrow keys and pressing Enter or by clicking on it.

Safari (Mac)

  1. Click on the View menu using the mouse.
  2. Click on Make Text Bigger or Make Text Smaller to change the font size.

Magnifying the screen

Windows XP

  1. Expand the Start menu by clicking on the Start button.
  2. Click on Programs or alternatively press P on the keyboard until Programs becomes highlighted, then press Enter.
  3. Click Accessories or press A on the keyboard until Accessories is highlighted, then press Enter.
  4. Click on Accessibility or just press Enter if it is already selected.
  5. Click on Magnifier or press the M key. When Magnifier is highlighted, press Enter on the keyboard.
  6. The magnifier is now turned on and the settings box appears.

  7. You can click in the magnification level box to change the level of magnification.
  8. Minimise the magnifier settings box by clicking the minimise button or by pressing Alt and Space at the same time, then press the N charactor on the keyboard.

Mac OS X

  1. Whilst in the finder click on the Apple menu or press Ctrl and F2 at the same time.
  2. Click System Preferences or press the down arrow key to highlight it and then press Enter on the keyboard.
  3. Click the Universal Access icon or press the Tab key repeatedly.
  4. Click the Seeing tab or press Ctrl and F7 charactors at the same time (once or twice) to highlight one of the four tabs. Then press the left or right arrow key to select the Seeing tab.
  5. Click the Turn on Zoom button or press Tab to highlight the Turn on Zoom button and press the Spacebar.
  6. To zoom in press Alt, Apple and the + key at the same time, this zooms to your maximum level of magnification set in Zoom Options. The preview rectangle (black bordered box) shows the area of the screen that you will see at maximum zoom. To zoom out press Alt, Apple and the - charactor at the same time.
  7. To change the Maximum and Minimum Zoom settings click on Zoom Options or press Tab until Zoom Options is highlighted and then press the Spacebar.
  8. Click the Maximum Zoom gauge bar to increase or decrease the Magnification level or press Tab to highlight the slider on the gauge bar and use the left and right arrow keys to increase or decrease the maximum magnification level.
  9. When you have finished click on the Done button.
  10. Click the Close button at the top of the Universal Access window or press Apple and W to close the window.

Changing the colours

Mozilla Firefox 1.5/2.0

  1. Click the Tools menu or press Alt and T.
  2. Click Options or press O to display the Options dialog box.
  3. Click the Content tab or use the arrow keys until it is highlighted.
  4. Click on Colours or press Alt and C to open the Colours dialog box.
  5. To use your Windows colour scheme settings in Firefox click on the Use system colors checkbox, or press Alt and S to select it.
  6. Next click on Allow pages select their own colours, instead of my selections above or press Alt and A to deselect it.
  7. Click OK.

Internet Explorer 7

  1. Open the Tools menu with the mouse or by pressing Alt and T keys at the same time.
  2. Choose the Internet Options option.
  3. Select the Accessibility button.
  4. Check the Ignore colours specified on web page checkbox.
